Orchard Cookery School

Orchards Cookery is a multi-award winning family run cookery school that specialises in training and recruiting Chalet Cooks.  The two week or five day residential courses are intensive but great fun with dinner parties in the evenings. The school has grown through word of mouth and reputation, it has 6 kitchens, a bar dancefloor and gym.

Class sizes are small, 8 students in each kitchen, with the fun of having up to 48 students and 26 staff at the school living on site at busy times. The school has links with a large numbers of ski companies and chalets and helps students with recruitment. The courses are taught by experienced seasonnaire chefs and cooks.

Abinger Cookery School

Students are taught in small classes by expert Chefs. Not only are they taught to cook they will be living in an environment where they will be trained to “host” as well as cook, making them the perfect candidates for vacancies in the winter and summer months. Student are taught the Chalet Cooks basic knife skills, how to plan a creative menu and where to source the freshest ingredients. You are also taught how to manage your time properly, how to budget your creations and fantastic service skills to make guests as comfortable as possible. Food hygiene, cleaning and life in the Alps are also part of this useful training programme and are sure to help you kick start your new career with ease.

This is an intensive syllabus to give students a thorough overview of what it really means to be a chalet cook. The courses are useful, hands-on, practical and most of all-fun!

5 Day Course – the essential course for those looking to work as a Chalet Host.

10 Day Course – this course will push your skills in the kitchen to the next level and the second week of intensive training will give you the edge when you are looking for jobs in the Chalet or yachting world.

Whichever course they choose to embark upon, students will come away with an armoury of skills to make a great Chalet Cook, a folder of tried and tested recipes, and a ‘Chalet Bible’ written in association with Fish&Pips.

The Avenue Cookery School

The Avenue Cookery SchoolThe Chalet Host course at The Avenue Cookery School will teach you all you need to know for your job as a Chalet host. They are an extremely fun and family-run cookery school based in South West London.

Their popular 2-week hands-on course has been running since 2004 and has been designed by their chefs, who have completed their own chalet seasons. You will be taken from basic to brilliant in all the skills needed to complete your season successfully.

The Food Hub Cookery School

The Food Hub LogoThe Food Hub Cookery School is based at Kenton Hall Estate in Suffolk, housed in a converted cow byre it has its own wonderful kitchen garden. The approach is relaxed and informal, allowing you to learn new skills, techniques and most importantly, how to make the most of seasonal ingredients. The school is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities with Aga Rangemaster cookers and Kenwood equipment. The Food Hub has a produce to plate philosophy using meat and vegetables produced on the farm, they work with local chefs to offer an excellent range of courses including cookery demonstrations and hands on courses.

The Food Hub offers a residential Chalet course with accommodation in the amazing glamping site at Kenton Hall Estate. The chalet course has been designed specifically for those wishing to spend a ski season in the snow. The team has experience cooking in chalets and will teach you the art of becoming the perfect chalet host. You will learn a range of cooking skills allowing you to create delicious dishes as well as covering all aspects of hosting, budgeting, shopping, menu planning and chalet cleaning.
